The Performance Optimization Framework

How a score gets built.

Four stages, refined over 15+ years of one-on-one coaching. The same framework runs every program, for every exam I teach.

  1. 01Performance Diagnostic
  2. 02Gap Identification
  3. 03Strategy Calibration
  4. 04Adaptive Progression

The principle

The answer is the last thing I look at.

A right answer can hide a slow or fragile method. A wrong answer usually comes from one habit that repeats across many questions. Marking answers right or wrong finds neither. The framework is built to find the habit, explain why it happens, and replace it.

01

Performance Diagnostic

You solve questions that adapt to you live: when you handle one well, the next gets harder; when you struggle, it steps back. I watch four things:

  • ComprehensionHow well you understand what the question is asking
  • ConceptsHow well you know the underlying ideas
  • ApplicationHow well you use those ideas on an unfamiliar question
  • Speed methodsWhether you reach for the shortcut that saves time

You leave withClear feedback on what is limiting your score, and guidance on what to work on first.

02

Gap Identification

Every error is traced past what went wrong to why it went wrong: the thought process that produced it, or the habit that keeps repeating it. Two students can miss the same question for completely different reasons, so they need different corrections.

The error The thinking behind it The correction

You leave withA list of your specific error patterns and the correction for each.

03

Strategy Calibration

Your study plan is built from the diagnosis, not from a standard syllabus. It sets:

  • Which topics come first
  • Which methods need retraining
  • What homework follows each class
  • When your mock tests are scheduled

All of it is set against your test date.

You leave withA personal plan with milestones.

04

Adaptive Progression

Your plan is never fixed. Each class shows me how you are working right now. Each homework set and mock shows what that work is producing. I use both to decide what comes next. A correction that has taken hold moves you on to harder material. One that hasn't gets more work before we build on it.

Your time goes to the gap that is costing you the most points at that moment, not to topics you already control. Each gain is secured before the next one is added on top of it, so the score rises in steps that hold up under test conditions, all the way to your target.

An example from SAT Math

Enrolled students practise on my own platform. Every question they solve, in practice, module tests or full-length mocks, feeds a Readiness Score for each subject area, module, section and the full test, shown against their target score. Every adjustment to the plan is based on those numbers.

Inside the framework

The Rigorous Evidence Framework (REF)

REF is a structured approach to answering questions, built around one operating principle: no statement is treated as true unless the question has explicitly given it to you. Not implied it. Not made it seem likely. Given it.

“Where in this problem was I actually told this?”
  1. 1Pauseat set points in the question
  2. 2Askwhere the information came from
  3. 3Discardanything assumed, and restart from what the question actually gives

REF in practice · GMAT

One habit, 25 points of accuracy.

Suhasini came in convinced she was weak in Quant. The diagnostic showed something else. On Data Sufficiency and Critical Reasoning questions, she was filling gaps with information the questions never gave her. It was a predictive instinct built over years as a national-level cricketer and in sales negotiations, and the GMAT is designed to punish exactly that. We retrained it with REF. Her accuracy rose by 25 percentage points, she reached her target GMAT score, and she was admitted to the Executive MBA at IIM Calcutta, her first choice.
